The Permaculture Makeover- Wrapping Up

With the garden all mulched for winter, we shed our muddy gear and went inside for hot soup and buns!

The Permaculture Makeover- Sheet Mulching Finishes Up

It really started to rain and it was all hands on deck to cover the beds with woodchips!

The Permaculture Makeover- Sheet Mulching Continued

After the cardboard covered the beds, with wells left around the plants, we added another layer of manure, then a layer of leaves.

The Permaculture Makeover- Sheet Mulching Begins

Wow, the garden looks so different!  We spread some manure over the new garden beds and covered with a layer of cardboard.

The Permaculture Workshop- Preparing the Beds

Katherine introduced us to the garden and we got down to work in the rain.  We cut back the last of the blackberries, and dug out their roots.  We dug small trenches around the borders of the bed and aerated the soil.  We got pretty muddy and the garden changed a lot in the process.

The Permaculture Makeover- Meeting the Group

The morning of the workshop we explored some permaculture priciples as a group, and had some tea!

The Permaculture Makeover- Clearing out the Blackberries!

The day before the workshop, we spent some time cutting back blackberries.  We uncovered currants, an apple tree and a grapevine.  The City of Vancouver brought us a big pile of woodchips as well!
